I know how I said Chasing River was my favorite one in the series the last round but after finishing this one, I'm certain that Surviving Ice currently takes the top spot for me! Ivy's character who was introduced in the previous book has certainly caught my attention and I've been eagerly awaiting her story. This one did not disappoint.
Ivy comes back from Ireland and found her way back to her uncle's place in San Francisco who runs a tattoo parlour. But when a sudden accident hits close to home for her, she isn't so sure if San Francisco is the home she's been seeking for. Getting ready to pack and leave again, little did she know that the accident she witnesed...may not be much of an accident after all. Not to mentioned, a random encounter with a good looking stranger who entered the tattoo parlour after the accident may have motives of his own.
What made this one stand out for me was Ivy's character. She's tough as a diamond and a rather complex character with layers beneath that she kept hidden from everyone else. Even with an icy exterior, I loved that she stayed true to her character and kept her sass with Sebastian whom she was clearly attracted to. She didn't let down her guard fast but over the read, we get glimpses of those hidden layers and a peek at her vulnerability. That made her character very real for me and I loved that I could easily get where she's coming from. Sebastian, an ex-military who's now a mercenary has baggage on his own and crossing paths with Ivy may have just given him more in return.
Overall, I'd say Surviving Ice ended the series on a high note and I can't be happier that Ivy got the story she deserved. It had a good balance of suspense, romance and light-hearted scenes in between that doesn't leave a dull moment in the book. I've always been a fan of KA Tucker's writing and I can't wait to see where she takes us next after this series :)
