Title: Cadence (Deception #2)
Authors: Ker Dukey & D. H. Sidebottom
Genre: Erotic Romance

::::SYNOPSIS::::

Cade.

He had her love. Her devotion. He destroyed her with it!

Years I loved Faye Avery from a distance, watched my brother have something he didn't deserve. She was always too good for him. Dante had a need for control and that grew with him from childhood, infecting her to bend to his whim.

When Dante abandoned her, the girl who put his future and needs before her own, I rediscovered the girl who lost herself to the heartache. She blossomed and flourished in the light of the love she deserved - until he robbed me of her. Breaking her down, dimming the essence of the woman she had become.

Dante had a darkness inside him that led him down a path of depravity. He was too far gone. He functioned on corruption, humiliation, power and retribution, and all for something that never happened.

What he forgets is this! I not only wear his face, I carry the darkness inside of me too, and my wrath will coat him with it so thick he will drown under the rain of my reckoning.

He wants Star, a memory of a girl he used to know. He stole Faye, a woman who owns my heart and is the cadence in mine. I will find him. I will take her from him.

And then I will kill him.

3.5 CADENCE STARS ★★★☆

"You once told me I was the cadence in yours, well you're the cadence in mine too."

After putting down Facade back then, I still remember how befuddled the book left me and it took me a good while to pick back up my jaw with the ending our maniacal authors left us. The revelations were mindblowing that I knew I just had to do dive in into the sequel when I had the chance, so imagine my excitement when I had my hands on this.

Again, this is just one of those books that divulging the plot details is unnecessary, so it's best to go in blind. Cadence picks up right after the events of Facade and with the shocking revelation that it left us with, we are thrown into a whirlwind of events depicting the aftermath of it. We see how torn up these characters are and how they all struggled to come to terms with how things are being played out.
"I knew he saw the side of me that had been hidden for years; the monster that resided in the darkest sides of me, slowly peeling back my skin from the inside and crawling to the surface."
The duet series is driven with the need of revenge, so you'll expect a lot of it coming from this one and further fueled with all kinds of deceit, manipulation and lust, this sequel will leave you second-guessing everything. Similar to the first one, these two authors sure bring their A game when it comes to writing those dark and gritty scenes; some rather graphic and violent, so better be prepared to put some big girl panties on.

However I didn't love this one as much as I did with the first although I'd probably blame myself for expecting too much after the state in which Facade left me in. Moving forward with the events of Book 1, I guess it is to be expected that the story will move in a different direction and having it told from another perspective. And while it still does retain some unpredictable twists throughout that knocked me off, I was left feeling rather underwhelmed by some of the events take took place as they came off predictable for me.

Overall if you're looking for a duet series that brings out the dark and gritty with a side dish of mindfuckery, then look no further. Cadence definitely gives the closure that the readers will be seeking for since Facade and whether you're on #teamdante or #teamcade, you can expect a rollercoaster ride with this one and an ending that will leave you feeling bittersweet for these characters.

Cadence is the sequel and conclusion to a 2-part series jointly written by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom. It cannot be read as a standalone and must be read after Facade.
