Tess Snow, 20-years old, and is finishing up her degree in Architecture. She's living comfortably in a relationship with Brax, her first and only love, but she feels like something is missing. Things between her and Brax are painfully friendly...they get along great and enjoy each other's company but the sex part is sorely lacking for her. She has a deep-seated desire to spice it up, bordering on kink and pain play. She's hoping a trip to Cancun will be just the change of scenery to spice things up in her vanilla relationship.
Brax and Tess make the mistake of venturing off the resort in Mexico. Stopping off at a cafe for a Coke, Tess's skin begins to crawl with a sixth sense of something not quite right. When Brax steps away to go to the restroom, she's immediately trapped by three men. Abducted.
Tess's nightmare comes true when she wakes with a bag over her head, being transported to a God knows where. At their destination, she's quick to realize she's just been abducted by human traffickers. The place is littered with young women, clearly being prepped to be sold. They're tattooed with bar codes, injected with tracking devices and locked away like animals. Some of the men approach her but she refuses to back down. She's beaten, nearly raped, but stands her ground. They warn her that her feisty fighter reputation will bring her a more ruthless Master wanting to break her but she never gives up the fight. Then the day comes when she's sold...
Her new Master, Quincy Mercer, a French billionaire, dark hair and stunning green eyes, cannot believe his new slave. She's clearly not broken. All the others show up a shell of a person but this one...she's got fight. He's pleasantly surprised. Someone HE can finally break. To conquer.
Tess is torn between her hatred and loathing of her new Maître, but finds her body fighting her...she melts to his touch...craves his dominance and infliction of pain. He's everything Brax wasn't. He's a monster but has qualities she finds herself craving for sexually. She won't let her body win over her mind.... Can she?

That's all you get of the plot. It's a rollercoaster and an awesome ride. The book is in Tess' POV and the reader doesn't get a whole lot of history on Q. The author drip feeds bits here and there but he's very cold and resistant to any personal talk with Tess. But he makes it clear, she is his...his esclave.
Only in the very end, the Epilogue, do we get Q's POV and I ate it up. The book flows along and you find yourself torn between wanting something good to happen for these two then in hoping Tess can gain her freedom again outside of Q's clutches. She's tortured with thoughts of what happened to Brax. She saw his bloodied body as she was dragged out of the cafe. Did he make it? She has to make it out alive.
This isn't the darkest book I've read but it's pretty dark in my opinion. I'm a sucker for a tortured hero and Q will grab your heart as details very slowly trickle through. Most books I'm very quick to latch on to the dark hero but with this book, details of his past and true sketchiness on how deep seated the monster that lies within him is, I found myself vacillating until closer to the end.
But the ending...Gah. Loved it. Love this author. She's got a great writing style that's almost poetic. If you're on the fence, I'd recommend her book Destroyed first as I found that slightly less dark but just as awesome. If you like Destroyed, this should quickly be added to your list of dark reads! Jumping right into Quintessentially Q!
