Release Date: November 2014

OMG! I'm such a HUGE fan of Lily's writings and today I'm revealing the exclusive cover for her upcoming book, Asylum!! Isn't that cover GORGEOUS?! :D

Asylum- Cover Only

        Words are funny things.

Their meaning, the pictures they paint in the minds of those that hear them: they’re not always the same and to me at least, that makes them meaningless.

Take for instance the phrase ‘black widow’. Those words conjure the image of a spider, an eight-legged creature with the red imprint of an hourglass on its abdomen.

However, instead of speaking of an arachnid, of the resident of a spindly and dew-laden web, the people who whisper those words are talking about something much different.

 They’re talking about me.

From what I’m told, I’m called the Black Widow because no man I’ve ever loved has survived.   Yet, I have no memory of any of it.

My new home leads me to the definition of another vague and meaningless word.   It’s a place where I’m supposed to seek refuge.

A place of retreat and security.

It’s a place where I’m supposed to be kept safe because I’m sick.

But the definition for this place is wrong and the word becomes meaningless when you’re tucked away and made silent by drugs and pretty white jackets.

My name is Alexandra Sutton and this is the story of what happened when I was imprisoned inside an Asylum.

Blog Tour & ARC Review - Sociopath by Lime Craven

23 Oct 2014

Currently out on 23rd October 2014!

The name's Aeron Lore. And you are...? Such a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart. Is that a southern accent? Gorgeous.

You fucking bitch.

Why so surprised? I control a billion dollar fortune. I control the news. Give me five minutes and I'll control you, too. If you could read my mind, you'd probably call me perverted. Unnatural. Manipulative. But I've learned to blend in, to be funny and charming. A predator in a designer suit.

I have no conscience. No shame in taking the things I want. And what I wanted was for Leontine Reeves to sell me her boutique tech firm so I could exploit the fuck out of it. Maybe exploit the fuck out of her, too, because desire haunts me in shades of scarlet, and I desire Leo most of all.

I never meant for this to be a love story. I fought it kicking and screaming, the same way Leo fought me. Now we're bleeding into each other, making a mess. A chaos. There's no control here. And what do monsters like me do when control leaves the building?

We attack.

Maise O’Malley just turned eighteen, but she’s felt like a grown-up her entire life. The summer before senior year, she has plans: get into a great film school, convince her mom to go into rehab, and absolutely do not, under any circumstances, screw up her own future.

But life has a way of throwing her plans into free-fall.

When Maise meets Evan at a carnival one night, their chemistry is immediate, intense, and short-lived. Which is exactly how she likes it: no strings. But afterward, she can’t get Evan out of her head. He’s taught her that a hookup can be something more. It can be an unexpected connection with someone who truly understands her. Someone who sees beyond her bravado to the scared but strong girl inside.

That someone turns out to be her new film class teacher, Mr. Evan Wilke.

Maise and Evan resolve to keep their hands off each other, but the attraction is too much to bear. Together, they’re real and genuine; apart, they’re just actors playing their parts for everyone else. And their masks are slipping. People start to notice. Rumors fly. When the truth comes to light in a shocking way, they may learn they were just playing parts for each other, too.

Smart, sexy, and provocative, Unteachable is about what happens when a love story goes off-script.

Book Review - Mr. Beautiful (Up in the Air #4) by R.K. Lilley

17 Oct 2014

3 MR BEAUTIFUL STARS! ★★★

PURCHASE ON AMAZON: CLICK HERE

"I, James Cavendish, unrepentant dominant, sexual deviant, and prolific slut for more years than I cared to count, was in love."

When I heard that RK Lilley was putting up a novella featuring all my favourite men from her series, I quickly jumped at the chance of this one as soon as it was out! I'll be frank that I usually don't have high expectations when it comes to these kinds of novellas because they always seem to be a rehash of the original series.

So how do I explain this book to you? I'll just let Forrest Gump break it down for you.

Jumping into this one, I didn't know what to expect. Will this be James's retelling of the trilogy? Or will it be the events after the trilogy? And where does all the other men's POV come into place in this book?

Well this book was definitely a whole bucketload of surprises.

Unfortunately, this is also where I found the read to be rather off-putting.

If you're hoping for a solid story that takes place after the events of the original trilogy, you're not likely to get one here. This novella was running different stories simultaneously and to put it mildly, all over the place. It alternated between past/present POVs and also concurrently alternating between James and Stephan for a good majority of the book.

And turns out, the actual story for James (aka Mr Beautiful) ended at 66%. Ah geez, why you'd do that Ms Lilley?! D:

The remaining 34% were pretty much bonus POVs/teaser chaps from Tristan/Frankie/Akira/Lourdes and some retelling of the original trilogy in James's POV. And I didn't like that these random chapters/teasers stuck out like a sore thumb since there was no proper flow between each one.

However I did very much enjoyed that we got to see Stephan's story which was the only thing that took me by surprise in this book. And yes, those M/M scenes; well nothing too overly explicit I think but good enough to convince me to join the other side...

********

Overall, a little disappointed with the read considering I paid $6.99 for it and found out the story I was looking most forward to actually ended at 66% (I'm starting to think I'm getting ripped off a lot lately). But for what it's worth, Lilley still brought out some smokin hot smutfest and James Cavendish will be the reason that I'm gonna need PLENTY OF ICE for my ovaries.

So yeah, I paid $6.99 so that my ovaries can have a good time and get a taste of M/M. Don't judge me okay?!

Please note that Mr. Beautiful should only be read after reading the original trilogy: Up in the Air series.

Book Review - Taboo Unchained by C.M. Stunich

5 ‘NOT A WHORE’ STARS! ★★★★★

"This is about the taboo, about rescuing the filthy side of the human soul, letting it come unchained for just a brief moment."

♥ Buddy Read with the fantabulous Kat Stark! <- Click to read her review! ♥

After mulling over this read for an entire day, I am still picking up the remnants of my feels that this book blew into pieces. Even during the last 10% of the book, I don’t understand the confliction of my emotions with all 3 characters! Do I love Audra more? Or do I love Robbie more? Or maybe I love Lucas the most? IDK REALLY. I just can’t pick one!! It’s possible I love them all equally and maybe that makes me a crazy person.

Can I just stress how much I LOVE the dynamic of this amazeballs trio? WELL I FREAKIN LOVE IT AND I’D LIKE TO REVEL IN IT ALL DAY LONG. Seriously tho, that’s usually such a rare feat to achieve in most reads which made this one even more awesome than it already is.

*******

Taboo Unchained starts off with a man named Lucas Carterwho repeatedly claims that he is not a whore despite being paid to have sex with his "clients" who require him to fulfil their darkest, or shall we say, taboo fantasies (think knives for starters). For a moment, I felt like this was an exorcism of demons...well except in a more sexual manner.

“I taste the blackness and I fuck out the light. I will teach you to turn the filthy, the nasty, the most putrid parts of your soul into sheer bliss, into an addiction you can't shake instead of a miserable, stilted, blighted existence.”

Having the story told from his POV entirely really brought out some of the best moments in the book. I can only say that I was VERY perplexed by his persona for a good majority of the book because I couldn't understand this man at all eventhough I was practically living inside his head!

It's like there were two sides of him:

- One which I found to be highly entertaining as he was being such a cocky, arrogant gigolo guy who seems to be rather anal about well...almost everything. Not to mentioned, he's quite the OCD type (hey, I felt sorry for his Italian couch too if someone did that to mine!).

- Another one which then left me feeling sympathetic towards him as he struggled with this "beast of darkness" inside of him.

To spice things up, bring in two ladies into his life, one each at the total opposite sides of the spectrum. Audra, the redhead bombshell who could match Lucas's insanity and Robbie, the sweet literal girl-next-door who has a crush on him. I admit at first, my heart was already set on one woman but slowly another one crept its way into it too. I started questioning my feelingsand yelling at Kat in caps lock on who I was rooting for.

Up till now and even with that ending, I honestly cannot give a definite answer on who I’d preferred Lucas to be with. There is just no right or wrong choice which just makes up another damn reason this book is absolutely fantastic. The fact that it leaves me in this state of confliction.

I was left very intrigued with even all of the side characters; some more whacked up than the others (I have a love/hate rship with Clarice LMFAO). And with the dark humor that the author brings out in her writing, she managed to turn a seemingly dark, gritty read with tons of kink into a rather entertaining one, which I felt brought a great balance of light and dark in this book.

Plot-wise, I really enjoyed the unpredictability of it although it was a little hard to get into at first with Lucas constantly referring himself in 3rd person. And as far as the love triangle goes, this book definitely brought a whole new meaning to it. I can’t really explain it because you’ll need to read this one to understand how this flippin amazing dynamic works.

But put it this way:

If you’re fan of ‘em, you should definitely read this.
If you’re not a fan of ‘em, you should most definitely read this.

*******

Overall, I found this to be a very refreshing read for a dark lover like myself. The exceptional writing, the sheer craziness of it all and leaving me in puddle of messed-up emotions; this was one of those reads that sticks with me for a good long while ;)

I rarely give a dark read 5 stars unless it involves some major mindfuckery but this was a complete exception because it brought out something else much more than that. It proves that a dark read can still be so alluring even without that shock factor.

Dark lover or not, I would highly recommend this read for everyone :) I wouldn't consider it to be a dark romance because the romance itself was a rather unconventional one but the overall theme of the book is indeed dark with the kinks, some violence involved and mostly disturbing dialogues. So proceed with caution!

Book Review - Hate: A Love Story by Laurel Ulen Curtis

2 TRIGGER STARS ★★

PURCHASE ON AMAZON: CLICK HERE

"To be in love...It's powerful and completely debilitating all at the same time. It's ecstasy and agony, and it's one of the single most terrifying feelings in the world."

I swear that these days all the books are on a mission to deceive me with their pretty covers, eye-catching titles (look at how interestingly ironic this one was!) and promising blurbs. Why why why?!

Honestly I'm so wiped out after a day's work to be even writing a review but then I look at this book and remind myself the amount of effort I had to put in to pull myself through this read. So here's my $3.99 two cents of worth.

*******

First, let's talk about that blurb. I know, it pretty much offered nothing about this book or what it's about except it's a love story filled with...hate? Damn that irony totally pulled me into this one.

Warning: This standalone novel contains explicit language, sexual content, and potential triggers

So I do enjoy going into a book blind once in a while but sometimes, we all just want a hint of what we might actually get into. There are some triggers that people may get uncomfortable with, so it's better to be forewarned. To be fair enough, let me just list those triggers into a spoiler tag. But please only open it if you're an eager beaver and have a certain definiteset of triggers that will sure to put you off. If not, move along and who knows, you may enjoy this book without knowing what triggers are ahead.

**SPOILER BEGIN**

Love triangle (sorta), abortion, depression, 9/11 incident, suicide, terrorism, death

**SPOILER END**

The thing is, I'm okay with triggers. I love 'em in fact. I love them like having chocolate sprinkles and nuts on top of my sundae icecream. But if it ain't done right?

I felt that a big portion of the triggers were crammed in the first half of the book and they came in continuous waves crashing upon me before I even have the time to soak in the moments. I haven't got the time to let my feels flow! It felt like I was in one of those moments where I go shopping with my mum and she kept rushing me in and out of each store before I have a proper look at everything.

Sorry mum, I hope you don't ever stumble across my review. I still love you.

And then let's talk about those excessive time gaps. For those who want to know, this book spans from 7th grade till age 30. The largest time jump being 10, I repeat, TEN years. And I'm not a huge fan of them, so *shakes head*. There's just too much time gone and without proper filling in these gaps, it just couldn't work for me, I'm sorry.

Here comes the real kicker for me which then told me I should have DNF-ed this but my non-quitter self told me to suck it up. Again, this goes in a spoiler tag because it's a whole lot of triggers and MEGA SPOILERS.

**MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD**

Okay summary: The girl MC, Whitney met the guy MC, Blane when young; they became BFFs. Later they both met another girl, Franny who then become both their BFFs. Blane ended up with Franny, knocks her up, she got an abortion, then depressed and later suicide. Whitney also then realised she loved Blane all the while. But Blaine couldn't, so he left and cue in 10-year time gap.

The whole gist of it is that Blane came back and he realised he loves her too. He was in love with two women, HUZZAH! Let me just quote him:

"Even when I was in love with her, I was in love with you!"

If the love of my life ever told me that, I'd tell him to pack his damn ass off.

**SPOILER END**

********

The only reason I didn't DNF this was because of one person in this book and that would be Whitney's grandma. Who is probably the coolest grandma EVER. She is literally the saving grace of this book otherwise I would have given up. Love her knack of humorous advices and just being plain crude.

"Two things I'm serious about are abortion and penises."

Would I recommend this read? It could go both ways and I'd say it depends on your reading preferences (and triggers). There are some glowing reviews for this one, so it could just be me being picky. I won't deny that there are some actual great emotional scenes that brought out some major feels in me. But sadly, it just wasn't enough to redeem the entire read.

Book Review - Tied (Tangled #4) by Emma Chase

13 Oct 2014

3 VEGAS PARTY STARS ★★★

PURCHASE ON AMAZON: CLICK HERE

But Kate did the impossible. She changed all that—she changed me. I think we can all agree I was pretty frigging awesome before . . . but now I’m even better.
Oh boy...unpopular opinion coming through. I may need to go into hiding a while after this one LOL.

*******

Tied takes place approximately a few years after Tangled withDrew & Kate's wedding day dawning on them soon. Told entirely from Drew's POV (yay!) and with the addition of their baby boy James, we get to see a different side of Drew as he enters fatherhood.

And of course, no wedding day is complete without themandatory bachelor/bachelorette party and what better place to do it than in the Sin City itself.

"Besides, I think you should enjoy the good times while they last. I did. I have a feeling things are going to get real crazy—real quick—from here on out. ’Cause our next stop? That’s Vegas, baby. And there’s a reason it’s called Sin City."

*******

Well when I heard that we're getting back Drew's POV and we all know how much we LOVE hearing that arrogant, cocky man going all crude in his mind palace back in Tangled, I just couldn't wait to get back in his head again! Even more after reading the other rather disappointing books in the series, I was hoping this one would redeemed it all. So when I started it, I was getting all:

And it was really off to a great start! Being back in Drew's head after what seemed like centuries had me literally LOL-ing for a good 30 minutes or so and even as he entered fatherhood, his knack of saying the most ridiculous stuffs was still ever present.

“What do you want, James?” My voice has a frustrated edge. “You’re dry, I’m holding you, I’m trying to feed you—what the hell do you want?” I walk back to the kitchen and grab the checkbook off the counter.
“Will money make you happy?”
Ridiculous—yes, I know. Don’t judge me.
“I’ll give you ten thousand dollars for four hours of sleep. I’ll write the check out right now.”

But the problem starts kicking in for me when the story shifted to Vegas.

From here then on, I felt that the story kinda fell flat for me. Don't get me wrong, there were some great funny scenes involving the guys but after a while, I really couldn't be bothered and ended up skimming through a lot. I wished that we could have seen the bachelorette side instead of solely focusing on the bachelor side.

Not that I was particularly fond of Kate's POV in Twisted but I thought it would have been a great touch to the book and allowed the book to diversify. After all, it is Drew & Kate's wedding, not just a one sided affair.

Also the Vegas storyline didn't do much to excite me and there was nothing extraordinary done to shake things up a little. From the first half of the book, it sounded almost like Drew implied something big was gonna shake them up prior to the wedding. And when we do finally get to that part, I was left underwhelmed and a little cheated.

And don't get me started on Delores, I wanted to slap that woman silly a few times LOL. But in a way, I'm glad her appearance was kept rather minimal in this one & didn't annoy me too much. Also I missed little Mackenzie and the darn things she used to say! Now that she's grown up, looks like lil James took over her role for saying the darnedest things (how cute was the "poosy" scene?!) :D

********

Overall, I thought it was a still a really sweet fun read to finally tie up Drew & Kate's story. Liked it but didn't love it. I'm glad that Emma didn't deviate too far with Drew's character eventhough he's starting to show a more tender side with James now, so plus points for that! The epilogue was a sweet loving one which made me happy that these two finally got their official HEA ♥

Would still recommend it if you need a good dose of laughter and a fix of Drew's dirty offensive mind palace.

Sadly this book has put an end to my winning streak of reads in the past week. Looks like all good things must come to an end :(

Sidenote: I almost felt cheated having spent almost $8 on this read. Especially the fact that I finished this in 2 hours..damn.
